Every hearing aid and cochlear implant wearer knows that having the best hearing aid dryer is the key to lasting hearing aids and cochlear implants. I know what will give you the maximum return for your bucks.
After spending thousands of dollars on hearing aids (HA) and cochlear implants (CI), you think that you are good to go, but in all actuality, you are just beginning the road for more expenses to keep your devices alive. The life of your HAs and CIs is determined by how much less moisture builds up and rusts the electronic parts inside. Unfortunately, one drop of moisture for some devices is enough to make the device mad, and it goes caput.
But is my device water-resistant?
Water resistance and waterproof devices are two different things. Despite all the brands informing your HA and CIs are water resistant, this implies you can go outside on a rainy day for a short time and still wear the device in the humidity without damaging them on the spot.
You can’t get away with dry aid unless you can wear your hearing aid 50 feet underwater scuba diving for an hour. Until then, save yourself the pain of the extra cost of hundreds of dollars to repair your devices after your hearing aid shuts down and your warranty quickly fades away.
Dry aid, the dehumidifier for hearing aids and cochlear implants
Moisture is everywhere; that’s a situation we can’t control. The electronics’ ability to operate under humidity is next to impossible. If you ever find yourself in the following conditions, you will need a dry aid:
- You’re an athlete, work out regularly, or you have a gruelling job where you sweat a lot
- You spend time near a rainfall or the ocean
- You live in a place with high humidity and heat
- You love wearing your hair wet to air dry or spraying the product on your hair
- Your pets can’t stop from eating or chewing your device
How Do I Know It Is Working?
It sounds better.
After having your hearing aid in the dry kit, you will feel that you can hear better. If you noticed an improved quality of sound and things are clear.
No static sound
This crackling sound appears when you have your device microphone turned on. This sound is a sign to indicate that moisture has gone too close to the microphone inside. Once you leave your hearing aid in the dry kit, it should stop. You should be able to go for at least a day without a crackling sound after putting your hearing aid in a piece of dry equipment overnight.
No moisture left in the tube
If you have a clear thick tube attached to your earmold and hearing aids, you will notice at times there is a drop of water. Sometimes your hearing aids would sound like you are underwater. Moreover, if your dry aid solution works, you should see the water drop in the tube disappear.
Ear wax flakes off
When using the electronic dry aid specifically, they provide cleaning solutions. So, even if your ear wax seems to be caked hard onto your earmold or hearing aids, chances are you don’t have a device that works well. But if you find it so easy to remove wax with a cloth or brush, you have a perfectly working solution.

Home Care Hacks
I could never understand how people drop their smartphones in the toilet, but I am amazed that they can get them back working and in order. One thing that you see many people do when coffee or water damage their computer and smartphones is to use rice in a bag and cover their device with uncooked rice all over. You can do the same but place your hearing aids in a bag full of rice instead of your device. Just remember where you place them before you cook them in hot boiling water.
Another trick you can do is to buy silica gel packets, insert them into a Ziploc bag, and place your hearings inside.
My Favorite and Opinions
The UV-ray electronic device appears to be a hearing aid’s tanning bed that does nothing to help my hearing aids dry out the sweat for my intense workout or heavy moisture environment. I like to stay fit, and I’m not letting my hearing aid get damaged.
Don’t worry about any of your dry-aid kits being picked up the extra screening by TSA or security at the airport. I’ve travelled to many places, and like my hearing aids, they never get picked up by security, even when no liquid or cosmetics were allowed onboard.
I love my Hal-Hen Mini Dri Aid. I’ve owned mine for over 20 years, and it still does better than any of the others above. You will need to reheat it in the oven, but the blue colour beads in the metal container. The only thing is that you will need to let your metal container cool before putting it back into the plastic container or your hearing aid to rest on.
My last hearing aid was able to survive longer with Hal-Hen. I’m talking over nine years.
My dry aid mini has survived and helped my hearing aids in the coast of Ecuador and the damp homes of London, UK. So if you are looking for a quick decision and not be disappointed, take my word for it!
